The 8th International Wetlands Conference!
The 8th INTECOL Wetland Symposium will be held in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil, from 20-25 July, 2008. The host institution is the Federal University of Mato Grosso (Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso) and the Pantanal Research Center. This is the first meeting of the Wetland Working Group (WWG) in South America and it will be the largest international meeting on wetlands in Latin America. It will stimulate international and continental-scale interactions and promote wetland education, research and management throughout the region. A major field attraction is the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, an excellent example of international cooperation in research and development of wetlands, bordered by three countries. The city of Cuiabá is the gateway to the Pantanal the capital of Mato Grosso state. Adequate convention center and modestly-priced housing are available. In the city a special effort is an being made to facilitate student participation and international exchanges. See more informationHow to get there? BY AIR: International flight to Brazil generally go to the international airport of São Paulo (Guarulhos, GRU) or Rio de Janeiro (Galeão - Antonio Carlos Jobim, GIG). National carriers (e.g., TAM, Gol) serve the connection from these airports and the airport at Cuiabá / Várzea Grande (CGB). In some cases, it may be necessary to commute from the international airport to the national airports of São Paulo (Congonhas, CGH) or Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont, SDU). Shuttle buses are available. There is a flight connection between the national airports of Rio and São Paulo. Student Accommodations will be available for R$ 20,00 per day, breakfast included. (The price is in Real (R$), Brazil's currency. For this accommodations you must bring bed linen, towel, pillow, or if you prefer a sleeping bag. There are 10 bedrooms, each with 5 bed and a private bathroom. There is another accommodation for 30 persons. In this accommodation there are no beds, but mattress will be provided. Bathroom is common.
